Kinetic toy

D.I.Y. Magnetic toy for kids

Concept

The Kinetic Toy begins with making. Children build it together with their parents, turning assembly into a shared ritual of creativity and play.

This process creates a sentimental bond with the toy and shows how imagination can transform ordinary, low-cost materials into something meaningful.

Once built, the toy comes to life through magnets that attract and repel, producing movements that hover, swing, or resist.

Simple in form yet rich in experience, it becomes both an introduction to physics and a playful bridge between generations.

V1 – too small, no room for movement

V2 – too large, not sliding well

V3 – Adjusted size, removed the plastic straw(no need), different glue ( less heavy + cleaner)

Material research

In this project, I worked with material to shape a movement that embodies controlled chaos.

Chosen materials

I wanted the toy to be something anyone could make at home using simple, affordable materials. For safety and accessibility, I chose wood and magnets, keeping it as natural and bio-based as possible while ensuring it could suit a wide range of children. All the components can be found in a single store, making the act of creation straightforward and open to everyone.
